Paul Barren is a senior account supervisor in Edelman’s Health Practice. Working nationally from Atlanta, Paul provides expertise in a spectrum of strategic communications and marketing. Specifically, his career strengths are in program development, industry, consumer and business media relations, third-party cultivation, thought leader development, payor/provider relations and science-based engagement campaigns.
Prior to joining Edelman, Paul worked with pharmaceutical and device clients at Fleishman-Hillard to help navigate FDA milestones and prepare for product launches. During this period, Paul also worked closely with client CEOs to support crisis management, message development, R&D milestones and financial communications. Paul also utilized his extensive experience with medical meetings by attending conferences on his clients’ behalf to accomplish several on-site initiatives.
Paul previously worked at HealthSTAR Public Relations, where he led consumer and industry initiatives on behalf of Solvay Pharmaceuticals. He also worked with the American Diabetes Association to raise awareness on men’s health through a groundbreaking education program. With expertise in urology, oncology, cardiology, ophthalmology and gastroenterology, he is adept at all phases of developing targeted campaigns, top-market media tours, and identifying and maintaining relationships with key opinion leaders and media.
During his six years at Ketchum Public Relations in Washington, D.C., Paul was a key member of account teams for clients such as GlaxoSmithKline Oncology & Acute Care, the American Gastroenterological Association and Solvay Pharmaceuticals.
Paul has managed successful media tours for Wyeth Pharmaceuticals’ and golf legend Jack Nicklaus. Additionally, Paul has worked with Eli Lilly, Ortho-McNeil, the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery and Clorox Consumer Healthcare. Highlights of programs he conducted on behalf of these clients include: FDA issues management on an expanded-label drug approval, third-party cultivation, medical guidelines development, and consumer grassroots campaigns.
As part of the Delta Air Lines account at Ketchum, Paul successfully organized an impromptu pilot and crew rally on Capitol Hill for the Keep Delta My Delta anti-takeover initiative.
Growing up in the Southwest, Paul earned a journalism degree from New Mexico State University. He values his free time with his dog, Lincoln, at Piedmont Park.
